Join us for a free poetry reading by Russell Thorburn, inaugural Poet Laureate of the Upper Peninsula, and Kathleen Heideman.   Russell Thorburn, inaugural Poet Laureate of the Upper Peninsula, will read nature and exploration poems inspired by Upper Michigan and his experience as artist-in-residence at the Mojave National Preserve in California, with son Gabriel, a photographer and Warner Bros. animation editor. Thorburn’s current book of poetry is Misfit Hearts, which examines the John Huston film, The Misfits.  Kathleen Heideman will also read poems concerning nature and exploration.  Heideman is a writer and artist based in Marquette,  a past fellow of the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Artists & Writers Program, and recipient of numerous artist residencies with the National Park Service, including Apostle Islands, Isle Royale and the Badlands.
