I am very sorry to announce that Lee LaForge, the manager of Book World, in Marquette, passed away yesterday. I don’t know the details, only that it is all over Facebook this morning. He was just short of turning 45. He was a great supporter of local authors. In fact, he was the one who first told me to write a history book about Marquette. He continually accepted local authors books in his store and arranged book signings for authors, and twice he spoke at our UPPAA meetings about working with bookstores to sell your books. He was also very active in community
theatre, starring in and directing plays at the Vista Theatre in Negaunee. There will likely be an obituary in the Marquette Mining Journal in the next few days.

  1. So sorry to hear this. He was a wonderful advocate and advisor for local authors. And the store is fantastic. Sending prayers to his family and feeling grateful that I was able to enjoy and learn from Lee.

I had Lee for a Math Course at NMU in 2013, He also helped younger kids in after school help center that was located in the Masonic Mall on Washington Street. He also worked I think it was Pathways with Mentally disabled people in group homes. He knew my mother because of that job and would often stop by their store when it was open (Wolfgang’s Haus of Glas) to say hello. This man was very active in the community and I honestly do not think he really ever wasted one moment of his life. He is going to be greatly missed by many.
